Sydney, the capital of South Wales in Australia, is the largest city in Oceania and Australia. This big-city’s IT market offers many opportunities for IT professionals. Software Testing is a common position in IT. This is also true for Sydney. This article will outline my research on the Software Testing jobs in Sydney.

First, I have to say that the IT market in Sydney is very similar with Melbourne. Although salaries may be higher in Sydney than in Melbourne, this can be explained by the high living costs associated with such large metropolises like Sydney. The types of employment are the same: permanent, contract, casual, with the same features as in Melbourne. Casual positions are rare, but they can be extended and paid at an hourly rate.
The titles of the positions are also very similar.
Test Manager or Lead. These positions assist with test planning, coordination, and management. You will be responsible for leading a team of testers and working with business stakeholders. You must have 6+ years experience in a similar role, strong people management, customer focus, communication skills, and experience in all aspects software testing. Solid understanding of SDLC.
Test Analyst. This type of position has the same responsibilities as in Melbourne. It includes the responsibilities for Test Lead and Test Engineer. The requirements are familiar: knowledge of test design, planning, and reporting, problem-solving skills, analytical and problem-solving skills and experience working in diverse environments. A solid understanding of all aspects of manual testing at all levels. For all advertised positions, you will need to have experience with automation tools, databases, scripting languages, and other programming languages.
(Manual) Software Tester, QA Engineer, Test Engineer. These specialists’ responsibilities are obvious, so I don’t think it is necessary to explain them. Advertisements often list the following key skills: Computer Science or similar degree (or equivalent industry certifications), experience in Agile environments, documentation and defect management skills. A keen eye for detail and problem-solving skills. Experience in SQL, Windows and Linux.
Finally, (Automation), Test Engineer, QA engineer, or Software Tester. These positions have moderate requirements: Computer Science degree or equivalent, experience with testing frameworks – Selenium and Mocha, Tosca UFT, TestComplete e.t.c. Programming languages proficiency – C# JavaScript, JavaScript VBS, Python, Ruby. Experience with CI/CD pipelines like TeamCity, Jenkins, or Bamboo. Experience with version control software, such as Git, GitHub and SourceTree. Understanding of APIs and related tools.

Final thoughts: While the Software Testing jobs market in Sydney is very similar to Melbourne’s, there are some differences. Analysis shows that Sydney’s market is more concentrated on engineering positions than it is on management or analytical opportunities.
