Troubleshooting issues with internet connectivity
It can be time-saving to learn the basics of internet connectivity problems. Although you have the option to call the service provider to raise a ticket, it may take some time for them. It is also not advisable to waste valuable time if the problem can be easily solved. These are some things we can do to determine the problem.
The first step is to make sure that all connections are correct and that the power socket is working properly.
You can ping your website using command prompt by typing ping google.com. To see the response from each website, you can check more than one. It will usually show 0% loss. If there are no issues, the response time will be quicker. If there is loss, the response time may be longer. This could indicate a problem with the router or service provider. Sometimes, the server might also be experiencing issues. Always consider the response time of more than one website before you make a decision.
Double-check by visiting more than one website to make sure the website isn’t down. If the website is down, you can wait and refresh.
Your device might also be having problems. To ensure that the problem is not with your device, check the internet connection on multiple devices.
Check the light switches on the router and modem. Both the modem and router may be used together in some cases. There should be no problems if all the lights are steady and green. If the device shows any other lights than green, it is time to restart the device. Unplug the device and then plug it back in. Wait a few minutes before reconnecting to the internet.
Even if the modem is working perfectly and you cannot access the websites, it is still a good idea to restart the device. This might resolve the problem.
Finally, check if your internet connectivity problem is caused by the wifi connection. You can connect your device directly to the internet using a cable. If it works, it is likely that the problem is with wifi, not the internet.
These are a few simple steps that you can do at home. If you have small issues, you can re-start the computer to fix it. Most other issues can’t be solved by us as the issue is with the service provider or the website.
