Report Highlights Versa SDWAN Integration with AWS Cloud Versa Networks is a specialist in software-centric networking technologies and announced that it has published a report detailing the integration of its offerings with Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS). The report, which was conducted by Enterprise Strategy Group and commissioned AWS, confirmed that Versa’s Cloud IP Platform works well with AWS infrastructure, allowing organizations to create high-performance software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN) within the cloud. The SD-WAN movement, which applies the principles of software-defined networking and network functions virtualization to WANs, is a rapidly growing segment of the modern, new-age networking space. It emphasizes software-centric approaches rather than legacy (and often proprietary), monolithic hardware-based implementations. Versa, a specialist in SD-WANs, and SD-Security describes its Cloud IP platform, as “cloud-native multi-tenant, multiservice software for a Software-Defined Network.” Versa FlexVNF is a platform that provides scale, segmentation and automation. It also includes service chaining capabilities. ESG’s research confirmed the platform’s interoperability to AWS infrastructure. “ESG confirmed Versa FlexVNF integrates to AWS and allows for the creation of a high performance SD-WAN while minimizing CPU/RAM utilization,” concludes the report titled “SDWAN Integration with Amazon Web Services – Versa Networks”. “Conserving compute resources permits the support of multiple users using the same FlexVNF instance through virtualization.” AWS actually commissioned Versa’s report as part of a larger project that examined nine SD-WAN vendors to confirm that they work on Amazon’s cloud computing platform. Aviatrix, a cloud networking vendor, announced its own report last November based on ESG research that confirmed the AWS validation for its cloud connectivity software. According to reports from cloud giant, the commissioned research reports were aimed at educating customers about the capabilities of different SDWAN offerings and highlighting the business value provided through AWS integration for SDWAN projects, which is one of the hottest areas in new-age networking. According to the report, SD-WAN is built on the same principles of software-defined networking (SDN). It abstracts the wide area network to a set capabilities that are independent of how they are provided. SD-WAN connects data centers, branch offices, as well as cloud environments to organizations. SD-WAN is a network architecture that separates control of the network from data flow. It also aggregates multiple physical and/or digital devices into a single logical system. The control plane must be flexible to allow dynamic adjustment of network traffic flows across the network to meet changing requirements. All devices should also be centrally managed. Versa stated that specific test results showed that the company’s platform features include:
Solution flexibility natively supports virtual and bare-metal deployment modes.
High-performance support with single root I/O (SRIOV) for AWS instances larger than or equal to c3.xlarge
Verified AWS CloudFormation templates to automate configuration and deployment for Versa SDWAN end-points, Head-End infrastructure and other AWS CloudFormation templates
Zone redundancy and enhanced VPC using VRRP between Versa SDWAN endpoints.
High performance bi-directional throughput and efficient memory and compute resource utilization. A low instance utilization means that you can use more processing resources to support multiple user traffic streams at once. Versa customers can reduce their network complexity and management complexity.
Support for routing between Amazon Virtual Private Clouds (Amazon VPC). Support for transit VPCs on AWS.
