Planning or Execution That Is More Difficult?

Both project planning and execution are crucial to the success of any project. The success of a project depends on what you have planned. Projects will be less likely to fail if they are planned properly. Because of the difficulty involved in project planning, execution becomes much easier when it is done well. You can’t plan if you don’t plan. Planning involves researching the scope, tasks, team, and other information necessary to create a schedule that leads to the goal. It is working with people to fulfill commitments. Executing means working with the same people to fulfill their commitments. It’s clear that people are more motivated and better at executing their tasks if they have input into the plan. It’s not about planning and executing. It’s about deflecting outside requests that disrupt the team and hinder the plan’s progress. IT Project Management is a real world where production is always the first priority. This is because it is the customer’s immediate impact at the moment. Good planning makes delivery much easier. Delivering is all about adapting the plan to address external and internal factors that could impact delivery. If delivery fails, no one will give you points for planning well.
Some project managers claim that Execution is more difficult then Planning when there are multiple competing priorities and no dedicated team. Even a well-written plan can be difficult for team members to follow when they are working on projects with similar priorities (or higher). This is especially true if the project is heavily dependent on or influenced outside factors. While a solid Plan is a great help, execution can be difficult.
Although planning is essential for great execution, there are always challenges to overcome even if you spend a lot time planning your project. The best project planning will lead to better execution. This is why it is important to have a good risk register and a plan for mitigation. You can then react quickly if there is a problem.
Each phase is different and presents its own set of challenges and problems. Each project is unique, so each phase has its own challenges.
