MindTap integrates the Pathbrite Portfolio App into MindTap Student Resume-Building & Accreditation Reporting
This blog post will discuss how Sandy Owen used MindTap’s Pathbrite app to help her students create a portfolio for job interviews for early childhood teaching jobs. This approach can be used in other fields as well, such as business students who use Pathbrite to create a portfolio of presentations, spreadsheets, or other project work.
Sandra Owen is the Department Chair of Early Childhood Education at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. This program is NAEYC accredited.
MindTap is used program-wide by her and she has matched and renamed all MindTap Scenario assignments to Ohio’s TAG standards.
These assignments are saved by students in their Pathbrite Portfolio, which is integrated into MindTap. Pathbrite allows students to save documents and student media. Students can also submit evidence such as:
Lesson plans
Photos of their classroom setups
Weekly contracts
Video
These documents prove that they are familiar with the situation, which are all linked back to the NAEYC standards.
Students are not only proving their proficiency in the NAEYC standard, but they also create a Pathbrite resume that conforms to the NAEYC standard, which gives them an advantage over other job applicants.
NAEYC accreditation
Sandra’s program needed to identify six key assessments that were consistent with the NAEYC standards in order to be accredited. They also had to track the scores and submit annual reports about how students did on those assessments. Sandra was able, using Pathbrite’s reporting features, to pull data from Pathbrite because she had matched the assessments to the standards.
Sandra also aligned all their results to Ohio’s TAG standards so that their students can take their courses at any Ohio public college and receive credit.
Pathbrite also saves all students’ work digitally, so they can take it with them after graduation, and have it in their Pathbrite portfolio for when they need it.
The Pathbrite portfolio and MindTap have made a significant impact on their program. Their enrollment has increased significantly since MindTap was adopted, especially in the online classes. This allows them to better support non-traditional students.
MindTap’s course administration allows Sandra to copy her Master Courses for her faculty. This provides Sandra with greater consistency across sections, instructors, and is another benefit to her NAEYC-accredited program.
Sandra is a huge fan of the MindTap course’s scenario-based learning approach. It encourages students to go beyond memorizing and allows them to connect the theory with real-life classroom experiences.
“We are not measuring knowledge by just quizzing, but much more in-depth because the scenarios match their learning better than any test.”
