EC-Council Certification Guide | Global Knowledge
Once you have achieved the foundational security certifications, there are many other paths that you can take as a cybersecurity professional.
According to Global Knowledge’s IT Skills and Salary Report, cybersecurity is the most difficult technical specialty to hire for. According to Global Knowledge’s IT Skills and Salary Report, 43 percent of IT decision-makers around the world believe that cybersecurity jobs are the most difficult to fill. This means that there is a high demand for security professionals who have the skills to meet job requirements.
Your current job or your future job should be the basis for your next certification. If you are interested in concepts like “certified ethical hacking”, “cyber forensics,” or “network defence” and you have heard of them, you should consider EC-Council certificates.
EC-Council’s mission statement is “create a safer, better world through awareness and education.”
This quick guide will help you to find your way through the EC-Council programs.
EC-Council has broken down their certification programs into six tracks, each focusing on a different aspect of cybersecurity.
These are the six tracks:
Foundation
Assessment of vulnerability and penetration testing
Cyber Forensics
Network Defense and Operations
Software Security
Governance
The Foundation Track was created for computer users. It provides basic security knowledge and cybersecurity awareness. It includes three certifications. CSCU – Certified Secure Computer Users
CSCU is an introductory certificate that covers basic security awareness and fundamental security knowledge. It will show that you can reduce your exposure to common online threats like identity theft, hacking, and social engineering attacks.
ECSS – EC Council Certified Security Specialist
ECSS continues the CSCU legacy by testing your knowledge in information security. You will need to be able to use proper access control to keep your data secure and protect it against integrity, confidentiality, and availability attacks.
ECES – EC-Council Certified Encryption Specialist
ECES will demonstrate your knowledge in cryptography. You will need to demonstrate your knowledge of encryption algorithms and how they are used in Information Technology, such as disk encryption or VPNs. You will be better equipped to choose and deploy the right encryption technology for your company if you have completed this certification.
Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing certifications
This track is the most well-known EC-Council track. These certifications are focused on both the offensive and defensive sides of security testing to reduce attack surfaces. This track includes four certifications.
CND – Certified Network DefenderCND is a certification for network administrators that teaches them how to make their networks more resilient to attacks and detect and respond to intrusions. This certification is basically a defensive security certificate.

CEH – Certified Ethical hackerCEH is a certification for security professionals to learn hacking techniques from real threat actors in order to better prepare for them and identify vulnerabilities before they are exploited. This is an offensive security certificate
